No,kadri doesn't deserve star money or even second line money by Toronto standards.although if I'm kadri i see what bozak who should be on a second or third line is getting and I want that much myself.

Personally,i wouldn't be surprised if the nhlpa wasn't putting pressure on him, Hodgson and otherrfa players to hold out to raise the bar on rfa contracts.they probably don't like the idea of bridge deals.

By how many points did Kadri outscore the guys mentioned 2 years ago? How about 3 years ago? If the author of that article is saying kadri deserves 5+ million solely on the fact that he had 44 points last year then that's a joke.

Take a 'bridge' contract around 6-8M for 2 years and if you put up .92 PPG then you'll be worth 6M+.

Kid needs to check his ego at the door.

Kadri should get $7M over 2 years - kinda star money, kinda prove it deal.

Then he's still a RFA and can prove he should be making $5M+ per year.

exactly, you have to earn a long-term deal, not just play one good season. Gm's don't mind paying for something when they know its right. after ELC and you haven't proven anything yet, it's always a bridge deal then long term or trade. smart gms use that system

in kadri's case it doesnt matter what he thinks, based on leaf cap space, he either signs for close to what Nonis is offering or he doesn't play, it's pretty much that simple.
Hodgson has a little more leverage for 2 reasons, the sabres have 10million in cap space and he is the #1 centre, so who knows how he'll approach it.

if you read what I wrote, I would refuse to give kadri a long term deal right now. a bridge deal is fair. you need atleast 3 years of consistency before a long term. not sure why you mentioned cheechoo, him and kadri are completely different players

Exactly, and the problem is teams are giving out ridiculous deals with both term and dollars to young players that have not proven they are worth it yet, almost like they are making the deal on hunches and hopes, expecting the player to continue progressing when we all know it does not happen even close to all the time.

A team can play hardball with a certain player in that situation, but it will likely only end up hurting that team in the long run as we all know another team will have no problem giving that player a bloated deal.
